The Educational Requirements for X-Ray Technician Certification in Texas
There are two main ways to become an X-Ray Technician in Texas: either by completing an accredited two-year radiography program or by completing a four-year degree in radiologic technology. If you choose to become an X-Ray Technician through an accredited two-year program, you will need to complete an internship in addition to your coursework.
Completion of an accredited X-Ray Technician program
In order to become an X-Ray Technician in the state of Texas, you must first complete an accredited X-Ray Technician program. X-Ray Technician programs are available at many community colleges and vocational schools across the state. These programs typically take two years to complete and include both classroom and clinical instruction.
Once you have completed an accredited X-Ray Technician program, you must then pass the Texas Medical Board (TMB) examination in order to earn your certification. The TMB exam is a two-part exam that covers both general knowledge and specific X-Ray content. If you are a certified X-Ray Technician in Texas, you must renew your certification every two years. The renewal process is simple and can be done entirely online. You will need to login to your account on the Texas Department of Health Services website and submit your renewal application. You will also need to pay a renewal fee of $50.

Late renewals will result in a lapse in certification
