The Kalief Browder Story, being brought to indie film

Social Justice, is currently on trial and among those using their platform to bring awareness to the issue is the entertainment mogul, and businessman Jay Z. Awhile back I mentioned that Jay was using his talents to address social justice change, one of those partnerships happen to be with producer Harvey Weinstein and the documentary film which is currently setting off a frenzy as Jay Z appeared in Park City, Utah Wednesday for the world premiere of “TIME: The Kalief Browder Story,” with Harvey Weinstein.

“TIME: The Kalief Browder Story,” is a six-part documentary series about the African-American teenager who spent three years locked up in New York’s Rikers Island jail despite never being convicted of a crime or even getting a trial.

Not too long after speaking on Huffington Post in 2014, Browder committed suicide in 2015, two years after the case — which centered on allegations of a stolen backpack (which was why he spent 3-years in Rikers Island Prison awaiting trail) — was thrown out and he was released from Rikers.

Spike will host the air of the 6-part documentary later this year.

Here’s a little clip of Jay Z explaining to the audience how the project came across his desk at Sundance
